  • Gfycat closes app when replaying

Gfycat makes the app crash if I minimize gfycat to look at comments and try to replay the gif. Every. Single. Time. There have been little to no updates on this app. The developers need to step it up. Even with the issues I still find it a little better than the other apps apple has. Also whenever a gif has sound and starts playing, the sound continuously plays even going back to the front page. Very annoying when you can’t do anything other than click on the link again to open the video to mute. Not sure if it’s still using bandwidth in the background either

Want to just read Reddit? Great! This app’s for you. Nice layout, readable, functional... I like it. Update to previous review. They fixed the crashes when adding links, yay! But now there’s a list of other issues. Videos, gifs and other image links just don’t open. If it’s a video/gif and it does open, it will show the progress bar make it to about 90% and just hang. The images won’t load. Frustrating as heck. Adding links with reddit codes [subject](link) and you need to correct something in the code, pressing to move the cursor grabs the entire link. What the heck for? You have to move the cursor to a non-link area and slide it over. Also, with the app in the background and then bringing it to the front it won’t open reddit, it stays blank. Great, there goes that article I hadn’t finished reading. Good luck finding it again. Have to switch WiFi off/on then reload the app to get it reconnected. I’d love to buy this app, it’s otherwise a good one, and people complain about these issues on the narwhal sub. They don’t get fixed. I can’t support that.

I’m a former alienblue liker and paid for the full pro version, and I also use the official app and Antenna, but I always come back to Narwhal! I just love this app!

Needed to switch after alien blue finally stopped consistently playing gifs. Easy to use, smooth features. Should have upgraded earlier.
  • Hard to have discussions

I know it’s a thankless job, but this is why I’m looking for a different app: -If I’m following up on a conversation, I can’t find a way to look back more than one post in the conversation thread. This makes it hard to reference things and keep facts straight. -If I leave the comment composition stage, my only option is to delete my comment. Drafts would be awesome. Copying my composition to the clipboard is a workaround, but the clipboard is ephemeral, so then you....
  • More Report Options

Coming from Android and RiF this is a good alternative. The only thing it is really lacking is the ability to choose from the Subreddit’s drop down menu when reporting a comment instead of supposedly sending a generic report. Still, it is much better than using Reddit’s app and constantly losing my place because I swiped a little too much to the side.
  • The only Reddit app for your iPad

If you browse Reddit on your iPad in landscape mode, this is the best app for that. It has the feed on the left and your selected topic on the right. It takes full advantage of the iPad’s screen, while most of the other apps assume you will view Reddit in landscape the same way you do in portrait mode, wasting screen space. You swipe left to upvote/downvote, and swipe right for the rest, like edit. It’s fast, it’s logical, it’s great.
