App Reviews

  • Bugs, and almost useless feature.

Rating based on app, not courses. The iOS app is very clunky and slow to load. Inconsistent operation where I have to restart the app for it to respond. Sometimes I download lectures because of no access to Wi-Fi and when trying to access the downloaded lessons, the app will still try to access the material through wi-fi and ignore the downloaded lesson. After several restarts, it finally runs the lesson. Very inconsistent operation. In the Cisco course that I’m taking, none of the simulations run on my iPad. A simple terminal emulation for some reason doesn’t run. Useless feature is the Q&A. It only allows the asking of questions, even if you’re the 50th person to ask the same question. NO SEARCH FUNCTION!!! I don’t like wasting people’s time asking the same question that many others have already asked and been answered. I was trying to see if maybe they were ordered by lecture number so I can scroll through the hundreds of questions to find what I need, but NOPE, they’re not in lesson order! In my opinion a complete waste of a resource. You might as well not show anyone’s questions when getting into the q&a.
  • App Performance Review only

The Udemy application freezes a lot and can be slow even on my iPhone XS. Please do something to improve performance. Hard for me to buy more courses if this continues.
  • Almost unusable, again...

Every few weeks there is an update that fixes one thing and breaks two more. The streaming in the latest version has become almost unusable with frequent pauses, inability to skip ahead and failed downloads. Not sure what is going on or who is writing this app, but something needs to change or they’re going to tank the whole company. If I could move my content to another e-learning provider, I would.
  • Poor user experience

The app keeps crashing with the error of memory problem. Cast to chromecast not working
  • Don’t use the app to purchase courses

The app itself works fine on my iPad Pro. It’s really easy to navigate and to watch the videos. What’s driving me crazy is that if you use the Udemy app to purchase a course, it takes an absurd amount of time before you can actually access it. I purchased one 3 days ago, and I’m still waiting to be able to access it.
  • Udemy is great, the app is great, performance is not.

I enjoy the lessons and the layout but good lord, even having all the lessons downloaded, it’s a constant struggle getting them to play.
  • This App Is Just...Terrible (I like Udemy though)

It’s honestly hard to believe how terrible this mobile app is. For how many users Udemy talks about having, how many courses on their platform, you would think they would have a somewhat functional mobile application. Freezing, crashing, lessons not loading, course catalog spinning in never ending loops of the same courses, it goes on and on. I hardly ever write reviews but felt compelled after yet again another crashed session. I’ve spent so much money on Udemy, and have waited patiently for an overhaul to the app, but nothing ever comes... please dedicate more time and resources to creating a high-performing application.
  • Poor download bandwidth

The only and sole reason for anyone to use your app is to download the material. I have a feeling that your app only works acceptably with gigabit connection speed and you didn’t care about optimization. Also I have to wait too long also for buffering times unlike and the opposite of my experience on YouTube or even on your site using my computer. I have a 30/8 VDSL connection for the record.
  • Glitchy without internet

I downloaded my course so I can watch it on my ipad. Your app bugs out because it cant get to the internet and it takes 2-3 minutes to become responsive at all, and when it dies it is still laggy. Please fix or install on “offline mode” option in settings.
  • No download!!

I doubt I would have purchased products on Udemy if I had known how their set up was. most of their products can only be streamed or downloaded to the mobile app but no desktop downloads! they say due to piracy issues, completely understandable but the streaming software is buggy and needs to be updated. I stream video from the usual places Netflix etc. without issue in HD but Udemy software is constantly buffering and won’t load making it impossible to use their courses. And I have tried to download courses to the mobile app multiple times. on three different devices, Over different Wi-Fi’s and on phone data plan. I’ve tried downloading different courses to mobile device without success, downloads will usually complete around halfway to 3/4 and then stop and never finished downloading the rest of the way. Since streaming capabilities are clearly not up to par, they should make downloading an option to desktop, otherwise they should notify people before purchasing that you’re only allowed to “rent” their courses since if I cannot download it I technically don’t own it. It’s truly unfortunate because they offer many great courses at very reasonable prices. I feel like they just need to be upfront about how their product is distributed.
