  • Limited Apple Watch functionality

I love Alltrails and had joined as a pro member. Alltrails has been awesome with all kind of hiking trails info. One thing that I think Alltrails to have to catch up is it’s Apple Watch functionality though. Currently it offers a record button and limited stats but missing the most important piece which is map info. Other competitors such as topos maps, viewranger are offering hiking map on Apple Watch. Without maps, I often have to pull out my phone just to make sure that I stay on trails. It will be so much better if we can see the map on Apple Watch.

Wow! What an amazing app! It gives a lot of information on trails and provides downloadable maps even on the free version. It’s easy to use and well thought out.
  • Great App

Love this app. The only major thing I would like is a way to filter out paved trails. In Iowa where I live we have a ton of bike trails that are almost always paved.
  • Completely awful and a waste of money

I downloaded to hike the trails in red river gorge. It didn’t have any of the uncommon trails marked which you can find on any given Kentucky map. I purchased the app at $31 only for it to be completely useless. You lose signal when hiking in remote places, it hardly worked and didn’t download the map I was looking for. Now I have a year subscription for this app and will use a different one instead.

I have used many apps throughout my hiking adventures but All Trails is now my only go to not only because it offers more trails but the features are great. The free version of the app is helpful but if you are planning to use it frequently I have, then pay the beyond reasonable fee for the extra features as the pro version of this app (paid version) is fantastic. Try the free version of the app out but do yourself a favor and ditch the other apps and go withAll Trails Pro.

More will come as I get more experience with it. So far it does a good job tracking, most trails that I’ve searched for are there, and it’s easy to use it to follow a poorly marked trail. I do have three problems with the app, which is why it only gets three stars. 1) It takes too long to start. After opening the app it starts downloading information, this takes over a minute before it is usable. 2) I have found problems with some of the maps, and there is no way to correct them. 3) You can’t upload new trails so others can enjoy them.
  • Latest version is buggy

First used this app earlier this year and it worked great. Just tried it again today, with my new Apple Watch S4, and it totally got the recorded hike wrong. The recording didn’t follow the trail, just straight lines between random points. The Apple Watch showed 0 miles through most of the hike. The end result showed half the distance traveled and a maybe half the time. So much for what seemed like a great app. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is that it is still useful for planning a hike.
  • Needs monthly subscription model

Until this app offers the option to pay on a monthly basis I won’t use it. It says $2.50/mth but that is misleading since you will be billed the entire year up front. Please offer monthly payments or a free trial so users can evaluate for themselves. Right now users are forced to commit to a year up front. Also most of the developer replies to reviews are just a canned response rather than a thoughtful reply.
  • Slow to launch.

The app is frustratingly slow and especially without network connection could work a whole lot faster for showing which apps are downloaded and available and which ones not to select since you haven’t downloaded them and can’t since there is no network connection.
  • CarPlay?

I love this app and now that apple has opened up CarPlay to third parties, making your maps available on the dash screen for off-road driving would give this app a well-deserved fifth star!
