Available Map Sources: USGS (United States and borders) Toporama (Canada) OpenCycleMap (World) OpenStreetMap (World) 11 Zoom Levels are available to give full resolution quadrangles. Simply pinch to zoom in or out! Get in close for details, or zoom out to see your whole area! Select quadrangles graphically just by double-tapping! No need to mess with coordinates or obscure quadrangle names. GNIS (Geographic Names Information Service) database included for Features of Interest lookup. Lookup features (summits, waterfalls, streams, etc) and add them as waypoints! No need to type in waypoints by hand. You can also search the database in an area and it will label all local features. ~700k entries available at the touch of a finger! All 50 United States States included. • Not worth it

As an environmental scientist, I highly depend on topo maps when I'm out in the field. This app was great about a year ago when I traversed the western U.S. Lately this app has failed me and let me down considerably. It lags for a very long time. I have to wait an extended amount of time to find my location and it takes days just to download one quad. LOOK ELSEWHERE! This app was once great. It has gone downhill since.

Back in 2010 this was a good app. I don't know what has happened since, but it has been worse than just languishing. The app has been crashing for a couple of years and device upgrades (at least). It has now been rendered worthless from the iPhone 4s through iPhone 6+ and iPads in between (read: not device related). The maps (quads) download about as fast as the U.S. Congress works. But that really doesn't matter since the app crashes upon open after that. There used to be a safe mode switch (they evidently knew their device was failing back then and built a workaround). But that is now gone. Other apps have Wx overlays, many map options like AVR, topo updates, visual satellite, trails - all interchangeable and for about the same price with constant updates to their apps. This app is just junk. Don't bulk up your device with apps that won't work at home, much less out in the field when you need them and when your life may depend on them. Stay clear of this app. It is just like the rest of those wasted dollars on lousy apps you've spent. Don't make my mistake.
  • Bummer. Used to be good

Used this for about a year but now it erased my downloaded maps and will not re download them as stated in other reviews. I thought it might be a space issue so I cleared a ton of memory. It still doesn't work. Useless without the topos unfortunately. Off to buy another app.
  • Good but not perfect

I've used this app for a long time. I love being able to download quads for offline use. My experience has been that the navigation is spot on and my location is accurate. It is so fast on my 5s (it felt so slow on my 3G when I first bought it). Probably my biggest complaint is I feel like the interface is a little clunky. I'd like the interface to be more apple map/google map-esque. It gets the job done. The maps especially urban settings are dated but that is the usgs source. Leave yourself some time to download quads.

As an avid backpacker, maps are my best friend (& GPS).I was intrigued enough by this temptation that I bought it notwithstanding the chorus of negative reviews. LEARN FROM OTHERS MISTAKES!! Move away from this "MIS-APP." It is useless unless you want only a birds eye view from 30,000'. The app WON'T: 1) zoom in; 2) might download 1 or 2 quads if app is given equal # days dedicated time (but see 1, you can't zoom in on a downloaded quad; 3) provide any way to contact developer for fix; & 4) if app has navigational tools as advertised, they're professionally hidden. Determined to crack this app, I wasted hours & hours on this "c-rap." Please learn from the mistake of an outdoorsman of 45+ years whose tried every navigational tool on 45 yrs. of markets: don't give away a dime to this so-called "developer."
  • can't download quads since going to iphone 5S

    By Tacoma Russ
with my old phone had quite a few quads stored, but on the new phone they did not get transferred, so decided to redownload -- but even after leaving it running all night it would not finish downloading 1 quad -- it seems to be in perpetual "downloading X Quads" mode -- with the status circle continuously running and it burning thru the battery (had to leave it hooked up to the charger) -- worthless without downloaded quads and frankly -- using the a seperate GPS device makes more sense then this wannabe GPS utilizing your phone
  • Great App but hate the new topo maps

    By Rhartmanz
If you love to have maps with trails and elevation contours, this is the app for you. It is great for planning hiking or mt biking routes. This is a very stable app on the iPhone 5s. However, I hate the new USGS digital map format. All the trails are gone. Perhaps the author will make the old map format an option again.

  • good - bad

The maps are great. They load quickly and they are easy to use to navigate. Unfortunately, The new version has a relief map instead of the usual topo, and is missing the 4 wheel drive trails we use. This map is worth the price, I have used it for a few years and it always helps us get around.
